Christmas Vacation

Merry Christmas Eve everybody! It's my first ever, and we are Christmasing at Grandma and Grandpa's house in Tracy.

This week, I had a rash on my face. :o(
We went to Dr. Gilless (by the way, I weighed in at 10 lbs. 7 oz.!) and she gave me some cortizone and told mom and dad to stop using the Johnson & Johnson Baby Wash with perfumes and stat using the Aveeno fragrance free stuff. The advice seemed to work like a charm.

See? Look how smooth my skin is now:

So, last weekend mom and dad let grandma and grandpa take care of me while they went to celebrate Uncky Brad's birthday.

It was nice for them to get out for a few hours, and, of course, grandma and grandpa looooooved the time they got to spend with me. We watched It's a Wonderful Life and they got some crab sandwiches from Nick's at Rockaway.

So, I've been smiling a bit, but haven't quite got the hang of it yet, but you know what I have gotten the hang of? These nifty new sweaters I've been getting. Look at my dad holding me in my new sweater:

Yesterday, the 23rd, mom had to do a little running around. She saw my auntie Monique at her work at Stanford, and spent some time with her. Auntie 'Nique pretty much agreed that I am the most perfect baby ever born.

I had a peeper, and mom had to change my diapie.

They had a good time and Auntie Monique even used me to record a message for my pops.

After we picked up dad, mom and dad and big brother Bowser and me went to Tracy for Christmas. We made a few detours in Livermore and Fremont to see some Christmas Lights we saw online.

Dad tells me that Christmas Lights are a continuation of a tradition from way back thousands of years ago, when the people used to celebrate the first day of winter, and they'd set large huge big ol' bonfires to coax the sun out of hiding. Today people just decorate their houses with twinkley (hopefully LED, but not always) lights. Some people cheat with plywood cut outs and inflatable things -- that's too easy and sort of defeats the purpose, dontcha think?.

Well, tonight, mom, dad, gramps, and me are going to great grandma's and great grandpa's house for Christmas Eve. See anyone there who's going there!

Keep Ya Head Up

A very exciting development, subtle but important -- I have started to hold my own head up. Yes, that's right, you read correctly: in order to protect myself from predators, I decided that it would behoove me to see above the grass on the plains. One important first step to this would be to make sure that I can in fact balance my own head on my shoulders. It's only a first step in my development towards self-sufficiency, but it is important nonetheless.

By the way, I forgot to share the link to my pictures on line. My dad set-up a Sam Romero flickr set here and he's posting all of my youtube videos at this playlist, so in case you want to check in on me -- feel free to do so.

On Saturday, mom, dad, and I went to my great-grandpa's 73rd birthday, and I got to see all of the crazy Romero's.

Dad carried me in in my baby car seat, and my great grandma immediately snatched me away from him and carried me into the house, where every one of the 12 people fought tooth and nail over who got to hold me.

In the end, great grandma and great grandpa got the bulk of the carries.

Great grandma also thought it would be okay if I opened a few presents early. Just because I'm so cute.

Look at my new kicks! Puma, so I can bound and leap quickly!

At the end of the night, I got real tired. So I fell asleep, and let great grandma and great grandpa carry me around, while mom and dad talked to grown-ups.

My great grandma's singing to me

My great grandpa's cuddling with me on his favorite easy chair

All in all it was a good night, and thought I fussed a little before we left . . .

. . . I slept all the way home.

Christmas Card 2008

Today, mom took me to the doctor's office. I weighed in at 9 lbs 1 ounce, almost 2 pounds more than when I was born!

After they weighed me, I got a shot. I won't lie -- it hurt. A LOT. The little needle poke wasn't too bad, but the stuff going into my leg made me cry so hard that I couldn't even make any noise.

I looked over at mom, and I could tell she was a bit faklempt: her eyes were all glazed over and her hand covered her mouth.

But after it was over, mom gave me a big hug and we both felt a lot better. I even got this cool band-aid.

The other day, mom and dad decided to torture me and my big brother by dressing us in Christmas clothes and taking our picture together for what they say is the annual Christmas card. You are lucky enough to see these behind the scene photos from the shoot.

And here's a super-exclusive behind the scenes video:

The Christmas cards will be in the mail soon.

This weekend, we will be in San Jose at great-granpa's birthday.

Hello World

Considering the ease of accessing one url, Ruben and Sarah have decided to allow Sam to have his own blog. Of course, at four weeks old, he is still not quite able to grasp the QWERTY keyboard, so his parents will interpret his thoughts and write them down here for you guys.

Check in periodically, we'll include pics and video of the momentous firsts in his life.

Should be an easy URL to remember:
